Steam Deck LCD accessories checklist: buy for the 7-inch model

LCD versus OLED: the accessory checks that change

Marketplace titles often say only “Steam Deck.” Record the model before buying anything cut to the screen or molded tightly around the device.

Valve lists the same overall dimensions for LCD and OLED, which makes some cross-model cases and open cradles plausible. That is not a universal fit guarantee: the displays are different sizes, OLED is lighter, and tight shells, grips, screen covers, fixed dock cables, and molded interiors can still be model-sensitive. 1. Case: protect the controls, not just the shell

The published 298 × 117 × 49 mm dimensions can reject an obviously undersized generic bag. They do not prove that the lid leaves room above the sticks and triggers or that hard accessories stay away from the display.

Close the empty case first: confirm the lid does not move either stick or hold down a trigger.
Separate dense gear: a charger, dock, or power bank should not move against the screen and controls.
Retest after adding a grip: a molded interior that fits the bare Deck may become too tight.
Check the total carry weight: Valve’s approximate 669 g is only the handheld, not the charger, case, bank, headphones, and dock.
Never operate inside a closed case: remove the Deck before gaming, charging under load, downloading, or updating.

2. microSD: choose capacity from the active library

Valve specifies a UHS-I microSD slot supporting SD, SDXC, and SDHC. A card can expand the game library without opening the Deck, but a speed-class logo does not establish authenticity or a particular title’s load time.

List the games you actively rotate and use the storage planner before choosing capacity.
Leave working room for updates, shader caches, captures, and temporary installation files.
Buy from a reputable seller and verify the complete reported capacity before moving the only copy of any file.
Treat A1 and A2 as SD Association application-performance classes, not promises that one card will improve FPS.

3. Charger and cable: verify 45W on one port

Valve lists a 45W USB-C PD 3.0 power supply. Use that as the replacement baseline. “100W total” printed on a multi-port charger does not prove that the Deck receives 45W when a phone or laptop shares the brick.

If a bank or dock warns about slow charging, a direct test with the original supply helps isolate the accessory path.

4. Screen protector: the 7-inch LCD check matters

Steam Deck LCD uses a 7-inch display; Steam Deck OLED uses a 7.4-inch display. Buy for the exact LCD model and inspect the cut rather than relying on a listing title that combines both generations.

Choose clear or matte deliberately. A matte layer may reduce reflections while changing perceived sharpness, contrast, and surface feel.
If the 512GB LCD Deck has etched anti-glare glass, research how the chosen protector changes that finish before applying it.
Dry-fit with any shell installed so its edge does not lift the protector.

5. Power bank: output watts and stored watt-hours answer different questions

For compatibility, verify at least 45W from one USB-C PD port. For runtime and airline planning, read the bank’s printed watt-hour rating. The LCD Deck’s 40Wh battery does not mean a 40Wh bank delivers one complete extra charge: conversion loss, heat, cable resistance, gameplay demand, battery condition, and charging overhead matter.

Test bank → one rated cable → Deck directly, with no dock or second device.
If SteamOS reports slow charging, use the one-variable troubleshooting order.
For U.S. flights, FAA and TSA guidance puts power banks in carry-on baggage. At or below 100Wh is the simplest ordinary case; 101–160Wh requires airline approval and carries additional limits.
Check current carrier, connection, and destination rules. Never travel with a swollen, recalled, punctured, leaking, or overheating battery.
Use the battery estimator for a transparent planning range, not a promised extra-hours claim.

6. Dock: buy for the screen and ports already owned

Valve lists DisplayPort over USB-C. A dock can add charging pass-through, display output, Ethernet, storage, and controller receivers, but it cannot guarantee every TV, cable, display mode, charger, and peripheral combination.

Display path: identify HDMI or DisplayPort, intended resolution and refresh rate, HDR expectations, and the exact cable.
Power budget: check dock input and host pass-through; the dock and peripherals consume part of the incoming power.
Physical fit: check cradle width, vent clearance, grip fit, and whether the fixed host cable reaches without strain.
Ports: pay for Ethernet, USB-A, card readers, or extra outputs only when the intended desk or TV setup uses them.
